The problem this 53 year old lady has is mostly likely related to;

1- Excess acid production

2- Helicobacter Pylori

3- Transient relaxations of the lower oesphageal sphnicter

4- Congenital abnormality of the oesophagus

5- Should be treated with omeprazole 5mg daily
